This fascinating, brilliant 20-minute video narrates the history of the “Amen Break,” a six-second drum sample from the b-side of a chart-topping single from 1969. This sample was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music, and became the basis for drum-and-bass and jungle music — a six-second clip that spawned several entire subcultures. Nate Harrison’s 2004 video is a meditation on the ownership of culture, the nature of art and creativity, and the history of a remarkable music clip.

It’s really rude and nasty when they take the piss of of how Nicola looks, in my opinion she’s one of the prettiest.

Yeah, that comment about the US President was funny – although we’re still in a war with Afganistan (I’m American). But I don’t understand some of the cruel stuff said about Nicola and Nadine seem to have the best voice. Cheryl really was lucky to get X-Factor, which seem to propel her popularity.

And how many styles of Drum Bass like Tech Step and Neurofunk do not use Amen Break i love how misunderstood DnB is the histroy and seeing the global take over in early 2000s i laughed when people told me it was dead and i had just seen Andy C and Randall do a back to back set in Bristol, Guy called Gerald tried taking Jungle to America and they did not get it when first came out in mid 90s lol

Very insightful. could have used some video or at least pictures of the groups mentioned. That would have made this a lot better. either way I like this kind of cultural history/analysis. I really liked this video, Thank you for making it. And excellent narration, great voice.

Screw copyright laws. If you don’t think that they majorly screw people over, just look at The Verve with Bittersweet Symphony.
People should have the right to recycle and reinvent/reimagine whatever they want. To deny people that right is not only greedy and egotistical, but a violation of fair use. Art is art.
